Unique Watercolor of Opening Sunflower

Have you ever watched a sunflower unfold each petal to finally open out to a round seed head encircled with brilliant golden yellow petals? As the unfolding begins the bees readily swarm around the sunflower heads gathering pollen. I painted the colors of the background in dark greens to accentuate the light coming through the petals.

Paintings of sunflowers are my specialty. They have fascinated me since Blue Jay birds planted them one year when I had no bird feeder anywhere near the garden. Each year since then I've planted sunflowers, tall or short varieties, and neighbors comment about them.

My art studio is appropriately named Sunflower Studio Art. For more images from my sunflower paintings please view my website, www.kjoannrussell.com or sunflowerstudioart.com
